What is the difference between having your newborn photographs taken by an award-winning photographer and one without any accolades?

Photographers who enter awards go that extra mile to capture absolutely stunning images. They take pride in their work and often will be perfecting an idea over multiple photoshoots. This is to ensure the image has no flaws and is a photograph that is just perfect.

The lighting has to be spot on and it has to draw your eye straight to the subjects. Ideally you want the image to make people gasp.

Of course with newborn photography it's quite a challenge to capture that ideal portrait. Babies don't work to a schedule or do they follow instructions on how to pose. As a photographer you have to be patient and wait for the right moment which might take a while. You need a wealth of experience to spot the tell tell signs that the baby is ready, looks relaxed and who knows, might even 'smile' for the camera (yes, it is indeed just wind that makes babies 'smile').
